Black Moon Lilith
The Black Moon Lilith is a point in astrology not a planet or an asteroid but a point that exists in space. When the moon is at its apogee, furthest away from the earth, it casts a shadow toward the earth--where that shadow ends is the Black Moon Lilith. If that sounds like a powerful point--it is! The Black Moon Lilith in the natal chart represents our divine power to create. It is our instinctive passion for life that when denied can become destructive.
Lilith is well documented in human history not only as the first wife of Adam but also has the bird footed night demon in Hebrew mythology. The bible tells about creation of man and woman in Genesis I, 27--"male and female created he them", from the dust God created man and woman equally but Adam had a desire, so it is reported, to have Lilith lie beneath him which she refused to do. It was not her wish to be subservient to man. She left. Next we witness the birth of Eve from Adam's rib in Genesis II, 18-22. As woman was a creation from a part of man, she was now obligated to do his bidding. And what of Lilith? She was demonized, exhiled and vilified within human moral and social standards because she, or it, that which represents the third element within the constitution of all things had an enormous power that was frightening. The primal instinctive power that is Lilith is not controlled easily--thank goodness! For here it is that our passion lies--the overwhelming desire to create with all the energy the universe provides us with. Through fear she was depicted as the demon who devoured children in rage for having lost her own children. She was the succubus who tempted men to have sex at night. And, as seen in the painting above, she was the serpent who tempted Eve to eat the fruit of the 'Tree of Life' for which they were promptly expelled and destined to live in ignorance. Lilith gave man and woman the choice to know of their own divinity. To know of Lilith within the self is the recognition of one's own divine power to create
Every thing is comprised of an electron, a proton and a neutron. We have masculine and feminine and---what? Lilith. The place that Lilith occupies in the natal chart is fascinating. It is your point of divine creative power. Aspects made to Lilith by other planets and the sign Lilith is in all give clues to how you utilize that power or where you are afraid to express that power for fear of being exhiled, abandoned, loathed and/or physically abused. Throughout history we have abused each other excessively and repeatedly in the name of Lilith though the name may not be spoken. It is time to be honest with ourselves, to see our individual responsibilty for the assumption of our power and not to be seeking it externally to ourselves.
Black Moon Lilith workshops are designed to examine the Lilith within us--what does that look like to you? How do you express or deny to express your power? What prevents you from accessing that power? Grasp the thread along the edge of your own fabric and pull yourself into the middle of your own being. What lies at the core of your own existence? Do you dare to see, to know yourself that well? The workshops briefly relate to the astrological aspects of Lilith in your chart--there are three, not just one, that work together to give a complete understanding of the divine creative self. The asteroid Lilith is the part of human nature that would rebel against the status quo and seek freedom of self expression. The Dark Moon Lilith, a second moon of Earth, is the banished and humiliated Lilith within in the psyche. She hides in the dark, in the depths of her own wisdom but fearful of bringing that wisdom into the light for fear of punishment and pain. Within the Dark Moon Lilith is a desire so intense that it has the potential to destroy us or illuminate us--if we dare to embrace it. And, the Black Moon Lilith is all the energy and power at our disposal to create and manifest that which we most desire.
Our passions unify us. We are unified in passion. Creativity is a result. Is that not what we are here to experience, the human being as an instrument for divine expression? In the workshop we access the divine self, the Lilith element through recognition and creative expression. Embrace the primal, instinctive self and leave the thinking for some other time. Astrology, journeying, dance and stream of consciousness painting all contribute to a two day experience of feeling and expressing your passionate and instinctive nature--the divine self!
